Fun and Easy Ways To Organize Your New Home

From holidays and birthdays to the special, little moments in between, your home is where all the best things happen. And when you have more than enough room — not only for the people you love, but the things you love, too! — you can enjoy all those moments more comfortably.

Of course, when you first move into a new home, you might feel overwhelmed at the thought of sorting all of your belongings. That’s okay! Moving in is a process, and with a few tips and tricks, you’ll be on your way to an organized home. Take a look at a few easy ways to get started:

Decide What To Store: Before you start, “assess your mess.” Go through each room and envision the bins you’ll need to keep everything organized, from soft storage for a playroom to plastic bins for a food pantry.

Use Your Doors: Don’t underestimate the versatility of doors! Perfect for guest bedrooms, an over-the-door organizer will store shoes, hats, bags, belts, scarves, etc., freeing up space in closets and on the floor.

Install a Faux Pantry: If you don’t have a walk-in pantry, but you still have lots of kitchen things to organize, talk to your builder about designing a pantry-like cabinet that’s built out with shelves and a bit of counter space. There you can store small appliances and pantry goods of all kinds, and even the microwave!

Use Garage Walls: A garage wall panel (or slatwall) may be super functional, but you can also make it colorful and attractive! Draw inspiration from this garage, which utilizes baskets and clear bins to hold small accessories, and a hose/cord holder to keep the hose intact. For a different vibe, try a peg board.

Clean Your Closet: First things first, ask yourself: do I really need it? Donate items you don’t wear or sell them to a consignment shop, and keep the ones you love. (It’s so refreshing to have an organized walk-in closet!)

Free Up Your Fridge: Group similar items together (condiments, lunch meats, jars, etc.) and organize them in bins, store restaurant leftovers in your own Tupperware, keep the most-used items in the front for easy access, and rearrange shelves to accommodate your storage needs. Organizing your fridge is easier than you think!

Stay Trendy: A beautiful storage ottoman is not only a comfortable seat, it’s a great way to keep items off the floor. Similarly, stylish ladder shelves are perfect for picture frames, candles, succulents, watches and jewelry, books, and all the accessories you love.

Organize Papers: If you can’t seem to escape paperwork, on the inside of one of your cabinet doors, use adhesive folders to keep documents organized (and in perfect condition)! Long gone are the days of rummaging through a messy drawer.

Start Small: A few quick and easy ways to clear your home (and your head) are to fluff up the pillows on your couch, straighten up rugs, dust off counters and windows, and wipe down tables.

Organizing doesn’t have to be a chore! In fact, making space for all your things can be a relaxing and fun project that gives you peace of mind. Soon enough, your home will be the open, uncluttered space you’ve always wanted.
